Overslept. Went to see Deffur around 11:30. Took a cab like a sucker. 20 rand minimum. Need to sort out some admin stuff. Saw Lana. Didn’t look like what I imagined. Rudo’s on holiday until next Monday. Need to go out to the main campus to get my ID. Internet is rationed!!! Students only get 3GB/month. I couldn’t access anything beyond PubMed and Google Scholar. Lame. Deffur was busy collecting samples. Didn’t do anything in the office. Went to the clinic w/ the Norwegians. Teamed up w/ Karita. She was a bit nervous, but was pretty great. It’s impressive to see the strength of these girls. Fooling around one sec and doc-mode the next. Same back home I guess. It’s the luxury that comes w/ a high IQ. Had a burger (avocado and bacon - my arteries!) w/ Hans, Maria and Woodhill (sp?) afterward. All these students are pretty well traveled and interesting. Woodhill knows a bit about Japanese culture from when she studied Hindi in the UK at an international school. Karita lives in Denmark w/ her bf and speaks 4 languages. Hans has been learning English since he was 6. Joanna (Swede), Ida and Maria have all been to SA when they were younger for various reasons. More clinic and research lined up for this week.
